Synopsis
Fiercely determined to capture the perfect war photo during WWII, celebrity photographer-turned-photojournalist Caroline Baker instead ends up stranded on an island for over thirty years. During this time, Caroline battles the elements, a guilty conscience and an unknown presence, all the while clinging onto hope that she will reunite with her once-neglected children.
Rita Hayworth With A Hand Grenade was inspired by the spirit and bravery of the female war photographer Gerda Taro (a contemporary of the infamous Robert Capa, Taro was killed during the Spanish Civil War), the trail-blazing career and photographs of Margaret Bourke-White (the first woman photojournalist 'allowed' to photograph combat zones during WWII), and the stoicism of Hiroo Onodo - a Japanese holdout who was still fighting World War II up until 1974.
The movie will be positioned as a star-driven, awards-type movie and will be aimed at a broad, mature audience for both the male and female demographics. Tonally, it's in the Hurt Locker space, i.e., it's a story of fighting to survive - both mentally and physically - while being crushed by a life of incredible pressure.
